This position will oversee EPT’s East Greenwich Analytical Lab. The position will support testing functions for East Greenwich’s Silver and Li-ion research and production programs. The position will including supervision of at least one test technician. This lab is responsible for the testing of incoming materials for quality certification and supporting the R&D group. The person will be responsible for performing tests on raw materials, reviewing and distributing data to the appropriate parties, maintaining lab equipment and databases, and communicating with test requestors.   R&D support tasks include executing existing methods for dissecting Li-ion cells and performing failure analyses. The analyses will require periodic trips to the University of Rhode Island to use equipment such as their SEM, EDAX, NMR and XPS.  In this role, the lab manager will be responsible for collecting the data, proposing hypotheses for the results and suggesting additional tests. The output of the analyses, typically for research scientists, will be formal reports that will be used by the research scientists for their peer-reviewed literature publications and patents.  When evaluating the physical parts of the dissections, typically using microscopy, the manager will be expected to work with the process engineers to write reports that include hypothesis for root causes of the failures and suggested operational tolerances. The day-to-day functions of the position be with minimum supervision while adhering to company policies and procedures.

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician will collaborate with the R&D and engineering teams to perform supportive tasks related to the design, develop, and qualification of cells and battery packs according to customer specifications. The Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician will work closely with R&D and Manufacturing Engineering teams to execute and deliver existing and new products. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the Mechanical Engineering team, gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements, optimizing new production methods, and setting up component and systems manufacturing methods. This role will require versatility and adaptability in the fast-paced R&D environment. If you have hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software and are familiar with building processes, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, you’ll help us build functional battery systems and secure well-designed products that support a production environment. The role will support R&D design and development functions for East Greenwich’s R&D facility for development efforts. This position will be responsible for the effective use the design tools to design, document and maintain configuration control for early development of R&D battery systems for Defense applications. The position will work within a multidisciplinary team of Scientists and Engineers and will adhere to company policies and procedures.
