ABOUT THE POSITION

Tooling Engineer is responsible for mechanical design and documentation of tools and fixtures used in manufacturing, testing, and inspection of EaglePicher products. Position works collaboratively with various groups (Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Operations, Quality, Program Management, and occasionally customers).  Knowledge of materials, tooling fabrication methods, safety requirements, and ergonomic considerations along with mechanical aptitude and familiarity with 3D design software allow this individual to ensure optimal tool designs for complete life cycle. Ability to articulate creative solutions to a varying set of constraints is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Use 3D modeling and hands-on testing to design and implement safe ergonomic tooling solutions.

     

  • Prepare drawing packages using industry standards; ASME, MIL, ANSI, ….

     

  • Solve tooling, fixture, and equipment issues utilizing root cause analysis and corrective actions.

     

  • Specify, procure, and implement fixtures, tools, and capital equipment projects.

     

  • Train manufacturing personnel on new tooling and fixtures.

     

  • Create and maintain tooling design, usage, tool families, and maintenance standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Hiring Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in Engineering, Science or related discipline preferred.
  • U.S. Persons

  • Detail oriented with an analytical and structured approach to problem solving. 

     

  • Modeling complex assemblies & components using 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred. 

     

  • Drafting detailed drawings for components & assemblies using 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.

     

  • Knowledgeable in use and selection of tooling materials, manufacturing processes, and coatings. 

     

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with understanding of mechanical tool design methods including limits & fits. 

     

  • Self-motivated with a passion for process improvement. 

     

  • Capable of communicating technical concepts and ideas using drawings, documents, and presentations. 

     

  • Proficient with Microsoft office software.

Hiring Preferences:

  • 3 – 5 years of experience in manufacturing operation

     

  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-ups

     

  • Experience working in data and file management environment; SolidWorks PDM preferred

     

  • Experience with powder metal processing (powder feeding, pellet pressing/consolidation, etc.)

     

  • Experience with high precision presses, tooling and dies

     

  • Experience with welding/metal joining (laser, resistance, tig, etc.)

     

  • Robotics, EOAT, and process/assembly automation experience; working knowledge of programmable logic, sensors, controls.

     

  • Automated inspection experience (vision systems, etc.)

     

  • Additive manufacturing experience
